How your supporters are responding to the COVID-19 crisis

Launching the new COVID-19 Supporter Index

Following the success of the public COVID-19 Sentiment Tracker, we’re launching the charity-specific COVID-19 Supporter Index - focusing on your supporters.

The results will give you the confidence to know how best to communicate with your supporters and how this will affect future income.

The COVID-19 Supporter Index will provide rapid, unique insights into how your supporters are feeling and responding as a result of the pandemic. And you will be able to compare this with our public tracker results to pinpoint what is significant and a priority for action.

How does it work?

We've made it simple, flexible and actionable.

All you need to do is send an email to your supporters (including a link that will provide that will take them to your survey). There’s no fixed schedule to this – just do it whenever you want updated insights. This can be as frequently as you like - you may only want to do this once, or you may choose to do it weekly, fortnightly, monthly or simply as required.

We’ll do the rest.

Each time you send it out we will collate the responses and provide you with a tailored report on the latest insights, trends and outliers.

We'll also compare and index it to the latest market trends and those in your charity sector to highlight priorities for action.

What will you learn about your supporters?

The questions are based on what we have learned from our COVID-19 Sentiment Tracker that we have been running for the last two weeks and include:

  • How people are feeling about COVID-19, their worries and concerns

  • How financially secure they feel and how this might impact donations

  • How their attitudes to charities are changing

  • Specifically if COVID-19 is changing how they feel about you and your work

  • How they feel about your communications at this time

  • Whether they feel it’s likely they will alter how much they support you

  • Basic demographics

Three reasons why you should use this

  1. It’s really simple. You don’t need to do anything except send the email and then expect the report in your inbox a few days later.

  2. It’s very flexible. You can send the survey out as often or as infrequently as you choose.

  3. It's deliberately actionable. Each report has clear pointers with context for your results: we’ll compare how your and other charity supporters are feeling.
